Actor Sunny Deol enters into politics, Joins BJP
Bollywood actor Sunny Deol enters active politics, and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
After father Dharmendra and stepmother Hema Malini, Sunny Deol is now the third member from Deol’s family to join BJP. Deol’s father was Dharmendra had contested from Bikaner in Rajasthan in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket while Deol’s stepmother Hema Malini is the BJP candidate from Mathura constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
“The way my father was associated with Atal Behari Vajpayee, I want to be associated with Modi Ji. I want BJP to come to power for the next five years because we want development.” says veteran Bollywood actor Sunny Deol.
Veteran Bollywood actor Sunny Deol had met BJP President Amit Shah last week, sparking speculation that he might be fielded from Punjab in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Therefore, it is expected that Sunny Deol may fight elections either form Gurdaspur or Chandigarh in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, Gurdaspur in Punjab was represented by actor-turned-politician Vinod Khanna. After Vinod Khanna’s death in 2017, the Congress won the by-election in 2017.
Sitharaman said she was happy to welcome Deol in the party who is committed to his art. “It is that which draws somebody like him who serves the people through his art, and who has the commitment to build on themes which are so important to the country”. Also because we are being led by a prime minister who has been very very close to the issues related to our border, armed forces and how to keep the country’s fame and glory high. I am sure Sunny Deol has been attracted to the work of the prime minister and has taken the call to join the BJP.” said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Union railway minister Piyush Goyal, present at the press conference shared his memory of working with Deol’s father, former BJP MP, Dharmendra. “I still remember the incident of 2008 when his father was a parliamentarian . He was recuperating after a surgery but still on party’s call he attended the parliament and stood by the party. Later he went back to the United States to finish his treatment and this showed his commitment. Today we are bringing his son in party fold and I have full faith that he will work with the same passion,” said the Union minister.
After, union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman welcomed Mr Deol, days, he thanked the Bharatiy Janata Party leaders for the warm welcome in a tweet.
