‘BJP has faith in young people’: Tejasvi Surya thanks the party for his nomination from Bengaluru South

In a series of tweets, the recently appointed 28-year-old young BJP candidate, Tejasvi Surya, from Bengaluru South constituency could not contain his excitement, expressed his surprise and excitement after being the party’s choice for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

The first tweet he put out after being named by his party last night was more popular: “OMG OMG!!! I can’t believe this. PM of world’s largest democracy & President of largest political party have reposed faith in a 28 yr old guy to represent them in a constituency as prestigious as B’lore South. This can happen only in my BJP. Only in #NewIndia of @narendramodi (sic),” he said.

He also tweeted, “My hands are trembling as I type this. Last year, I had opportunity to talk to our Hon’ble President @AmitShah Ji. The one hour conversation with him left me so motivated that I couldn’t sleep for a week. His determination, conviction to ideology is infectious. Thank you!”

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he tweeted, “I am humbled. Grateful. Overwhelmed. I thank PM @narendramodi for giving me this opportunity. I can’t thank you enough, Modi Ji. I promise you that I shall work ceaselessly for our motherland till my last breath. That is the only way I can repay this debt of gratitude. THANK YOU!”

Bengaluru South was previously under Union Minister Ananth Kumar, who passed away last year. Tejasvi Surya will contest against Congress veteran, BK Hariprasad.”It was overwhelming.

The BJP reposes faith in young leaders like me and that is the testimony to the vibrant nature of the party that they have seen I am worthy of this task,” Tejasvi said speaking to reporters after signing his nomination papers.

“I called other leaders like Ashoka and Somanna but their schedules are prepared in advance and the candidature was announced late last night. I will be meeting them later today,” he further added.

“I think in the same way just like in 1996 when a young Ananth Kumar was picked by the party, I have also been chosen. All the party leaders are together and will face this election together”, he stated.

Tejasvi began his morning by obtaining the B-Form from BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa at his residence in Bengaluru. He then visited Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, wife of Ananth Kumar, who had won from the Bengaluru South constituency six straight times since 1996.

Tejasvi, in June 2014, after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP came to power with an outsized mandate, had tweeted that, “with the exception of Women’s Reservation in Parliament, Modi govt agenda is inspiring. Dread the day when women’s reservation becomes reality.” The tweets stirred up talks among all and now has been deleted from the candidate’s timeline.
