Pakistan threatens to close its airspace for India once again

After cutting off trade links with India, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was considering a complete closure of airspace to India, confirmed Pakistan’s Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan is considering closing Pakistan’s airspace to India and blocking its eastern neighbor’s land trade route to Afghanistan, all the legal formalities for these decisions are under consideration,” the Minister said.

“PM is considering a complete closure of air space to Indiaa complete ban on use of land routes for Indian trade to Afghanistan was also suggested in cabinet meeting, legal formalities of these decisions are under consideration,” the minister said in a tweet.

Pakistan also  approached the powerful United Nations Security Council, seeking its mediation in the matter. After a closed-door meeting, most of the members of the council agreed with India’s stand that told that Kashmir is a bilateral issue between the two countries.

Air India Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Ashwani Lohani has confirmed that if Pakistan decides to go ahead with the air space closure again, the national carrier will be able to meet all possibilities.

Pakistan had earlier closed its airspace for around six months after India conducted an air raid on Balakot in Pakistan, after a suicide bomber killed at least 40 Indian paramilitary soldiers in Pulwama in February. Closure of airspace to India not only causes loss to the national carrier Air India, but also turns out to be a big revenue loss for Pakistan.
