FIR against MLA, 29 others for plot to kill Unnao rape survivor

Twenty-four hours after a speeding truck crashed into the car in which the Unnao rape survivor was travelling, UP police booked jailed BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and 29 of his associates on charges of criminal conspiracy, murder and attempt to murder.

The FIR against Sengar was lodged at the Gurbakshganj police station in RaeBareli on a complaint from the survivor’s uncle who has been in prison since February.

In his complaint, the uncle said he and his family had faced repeated threats from the MLA and his men and were being intimidated to change their statements in court or reach a compromise with the MLA in the gang rape case.

They have been threatened that if they didn’t agree to a compromise, they would be killed one way or the other, the complaint says.

The uncle’s complaint says the driver of the truck which hit the car in which his family was travelling, was associated with the MLA. The collision was orchestrated with an “intent to kill,” he said.

In a separate application, the uncle of the survivor requested the Uttar Pradesh government to transfer the Rae Bareli accident case to the CBI.

The teen’s mother said the accident was meant to “eliminate” her daughter and that Kuldeep Sengar was plotting against them from jail.

“It was not an accident but a conspiracy to eliminate all of us… The son of a co-accused in the case, Shahi Singh, and another youth of the village had threatened us,” the teen’s mother was quoted as saying by news agency Press Trust of India. “I have got to know that the lawmaker got it done. He is doing everything from inside jail,” she said.

Two aunts of the rape survivor died in the accident on Sunday, while the survivor and her lawyer were both critically injured. She was put on ventilator support on Monday.

The family, residents of Unnao — around 45 km from state capital Lucknow — was on its way to the district jail in Rae Bareli on Sunday to meet her uncle, who is serving a life term in a separate case. Amid a heavy downpour, their car had a head-on collision with a truck, which, eyewitnesses said, was speeding.
