Speaking to reporters in Durg, Senior BJP leader Uma Bharati Tuesday said that the country will “judge” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the wife of a “thief”.
Bharati had arrived in Durg to campaign for the BJP and told reporters when asked about Priyanka Gandhi’s chances at influencing the elections, “Nothing. Someone whose husband is accused of being a thief, how will they be judged? They will be judged the way the country looks at the wife of a thief.”
Take a direct dig at the Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, Bharati said that by choosing to contest elections from Amethi and Wayanad, he has accepted defeat. He is the national president of his party and can fight as many elections as he wants, the BJP leader said.
Slamming the senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan for his derogatory remark of “khakhi underwear” against BJP leader Jaya Prada, sought that he be barred from contesting the election.
Bharati also said that while she respects the Election Commission. Bharti said the EC’s decision to award equal punishment to Khan and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was an “injustice” to the latter. He (Adityanath) took the name of God and did not insult any woman, she said, adding Khan should be slapped with all provisions of IPC related to insulting women.
“I brought her to Rampur. You are a witness that I did not allow anyone to touch her body. It took you 17 years to identify her real face but I got to know in 17 days that she wears khaki underwear,” Khan had said while campaigning in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur.
The Durg Lok Sabha constituency goes to poll in the third phase on April 23.
