In A First, Yogi Adityanath To Hold UP Cabinet Meet At Kumbh Venue

Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet will meet at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj Tuesday morning, which will be chaired by the Chief Minister himself. The meeting will begin at 11 am. The Chief Minister is expected to take a dip at the confluence after that.

The VHP has called the Dharm Sansad to “finalise a date for the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya” while the Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth, Swaroopanand Saraswati, began a ‘Param Dharm Sansad’ in Prayagraj on Monday in which a resolution was passed condemning the inaction being shown by the BJP government on the Ram Mandir issue.

This year’s event comes at a critical time for the BJP. The national elections, due by May, are expected to be a close contest after the party lost power in three heartland states in the recent assembly elections.

In Uttar Pradesh — the 80-seater state that decides who rules in Delhi — a twist has been added by the freshly minted alliance between Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati.

A third factor is the entry of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the general secretary of the Congress in eastern part of the state, where lies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi and Yogi Adityanath’s home turf Gorakhpur.

Former CM and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a dip in the Sangam on Sunday accompanied by the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad chief, Mahant Narendra Giri.

The Congress is also planning to bring both party president Rahul Gandhi and his sibling Priyanka Gandhi to the Kumbh on either February 4 or 10 while the BJP is planning a visit by its president Amit Shah in the coming days. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to visit the Kumbh next month on one of the holy bath days.
