India is all set get 1st Rafale Jet Next Month. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa are scheduled to get he first Rafale fighter jet manufactured by French firm Dassault Aviation for India on September 20.

“In presence of the IAF Chief, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will accept the aircraft in presence of various defence and civilian bureaucrats there,” said IAF sources.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also confirmed that he will be leaving for France for a bilateral visit which will include the discussion regarding boosting of defence cooperation between the two countries.

The French side is also all set to offer a sale of two more squadrons, which consists of 36 additional Rafale jets, to the Indian Air Force that has been struggling with depleting combat force levels. A high-level team of the IAF is already in Paris so as to coordinate with the French officials to handle the event, sources said.

The Rafale jets will come with various India-specific modifications. The modification will consist of Israeli helmet-mounted displays, radar warning receivers, low band jammers, 10-hour flight data recording, infra-red search and tracking systems among others.

According to the deal, the delivery of the jets was decided to be completed in 67 months from the date the contract was finalised.

Earlier in September 2016, India had signed an inter-governmental pact with France in order to attain 36 Rafale fighter jets at a cost of around Rs 58,000 crore. The French fighter jet is capable of carrying a range of potent weapons and missiles.
