Indian missions across the world to issue passports within 48 hours: V K Singh
On Saturday, Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh said after launching the ‘Passport Seva’ project at Indian Embassy that Indian missions across the world would issue passports in less than 48 hours.
Singh said that earlier this week Indian mission at New York issued passports within 48 hours “This is going to happen across the world”. The first ‘Passport Seva’ project was launched in UK. In US the first project was launched on November 21 in New York then in Washington on Saturday.
Indian Ambassador to US, Navtej Singh Sarna said, “This is actually going to quantitatively and qualitatively improve our passport services immensely, both in the scope of the applications that can be handled and also in the way they will be handled and the way they will be integrated into the overall much better consular services”.

V K Singh also said that there will be no change in the colour of the Indian passport. He said, “by March our effort is to have 500 passport offices or centres across India… no citizen in India has to travel more than 50-60 km to apply for a passport.
Singh said that rules and regulations for passport have been simplified and passport verification will be made easier and for applicants it will be done digitally.
