Russia is open for dialogue with US on wide-ranging agenda: Putin

On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin told to US President that Russia is ready for talks on the most wide raging issues. Putin stressed that US-Russia relations are important for international security.

Kremlin said in a statement, “Vladimir Putin stressed that the (Russia – United States) relations are the most important factor for providing strategic stability and international security”.

The statement added, “He confirmed that Russia is open for dialogue with the USA on the most wide-ranging agenda”.

On Sunday, Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov also supported Putin’s call for dialogue with US and said that now it depends on Washington whether to have talks in near future.

Lavrov said, “The issue should be addressed to Washington. Both our president and his representatives have said that we are ready for the talks when Washington is ready for it”.

Russia-US relations are at their worst since the cold war era and tensions are rising between two nuclear powered countries over several global issues including Ukraine crisis, Russia’s involvement in Syria, and economic sanctions on Russia by US.

US president Donald Trump cancelled a planned meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of G-20 summit, after Russia ceased three Ukrainian naval ships.

Tensions have risen after Trump announced to withdraw from Intermediate-range Nuclear Force treaty (INF) citing continuous violations of agreement by Russia and vowed to develop all the weapons that are banned under the INF.

Kremlin also stated that President Putin also sent a letter to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and assured for full support in “fight against terrorism, in defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
