Kannur spirals into familiar violence, houses of CPM, BJP leaders attacked

The general animosity between the cadres of the BJP/RSS and the ruling CPM in Kerala, intensified by the ongoing protests around the subject of entry of menstruating women into the Sabarimala temple as violence erupted across Kerala on Friday night with bombs hurled at the house of Thalassery MLA and CPI(M) leader AN Shamseer and BJP MP V Muraleedharan, among other places.

“This was an RSS conspiracy to instigate violence in the state. They intend to create violence and destroy the peaceful atmosphere of the state,” Shamseer told media.

The northern Kerala district, over the last two days, saw orchestrated attacks on houses of leaders of both parties, creating major law and order problems for the state police.

Bombs were also hurled at CPI(M) leader and former Kannur district secretary of CPI(M) P Sasi’s house at Thalassery and a CPI(M) activist Vishak attacked at Iritty, a place in Kannur district.
Police have arrested at least 20 people in connection with the violence at Kannur district.

Pathanamthitta has witnessed widespread violence over the entry of women into the hill-top shrine of Sabarimala resulting in the death of a Sabarimala Karma Samiti member Chandran Unnithan at Pandalam.
