Amit Shah files nomination from Gandhinagar

BJP president Amit Shah filed his nomination for the national election from Gandhinagar Saturday afternoon, flanked by union ministers Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley, and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in a massive show of strength by the National Democratic Alliance or NDA.

The BJP leader along with the Shiromani Akali Dal’s Parkash Singh Badal, Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray, LJP’s Ram Vilas Paswan and other top BJP leaders Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari addressed a rally and held a massive roadshow in a show of strength in Ahmedabad before filing his papers for nomination.

“I am fortunate that BJP has made me the candidate from Gandhinagar seat that was represented by Lal Krishna Advani, Atalji and Purushottam Ganesh Mavalankar. It is this region from where I was elected MLA for five times and I began my electoral journey,” said Shah.

“This election will be fought only on the issue of who will lead the country… When I ask this question to people from Himachal to Kanyakumari and from Kamrup to Gandhinagar, I can only hear one sound — ‘Modi, Modi, Modi’,” Shah later added.

“The question before the country is who can assure security to the country? Only one person, only one party can assure this. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and NDA government can assure security to the country,” he asserted.

Shah was accompanied by the Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray. The latter said that, “a lot of people are surprised that I am here. When we sat together we solved our issues and our disagreements; Hindutva is our breath. How will we live without Hindutva?”

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh acknowledged Shah as the “successor of L.K. Advani, who represented Gandhinagar” for two decades.
