Lok Sabha Election Dates 2019 schedule; polls to be held from April 11, counting on May 23
The Election Commission today announced that the Lok Sabha election will be held in 7 phases. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, while addressing the media at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, announced that the date for various phases and said counting of votes will take place on May 23.
Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said the model code of conduct will immediately come into effect from March 10 and 10 lakh polling stations would be set up this time as against about 9 lakh in 2014. While addressing the media Sunil Arora announced the schedule for 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission said the ‘voter verifiable paper audit trail’ (VVPAT) will be used in all polling stations this time.
“The panel held deliberations with several departments, including railways, to ensure smooth movement and facilitation during the conduct of polls,” the CEC said.
The first phase will be held on April 11, second on April 18, third on April 23 and fourth on April 29, fifth on May 6, sixth on May 12 and seventh phase on May 19. Nearly 90 crore voters will be eligible to vote for 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country. State-wise poll details as announced by the Election Commission:
