Manohar Parrikar was extremely angry over Uri terror attack: Rajnath Singh

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Thursday participated in a condolence meeting held in the memory of Parrikar, who died on March 17, and talked about his experience about working with his former Cabinet colleague.

He mentioned that the then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was extremely upset and angry after the 2016 Uri terror attack that had claimed the lives of 17 jawans.

“After the Uri terror attack (on September 18, 2016), we were called by PM. I was with Parrikar in that meeting. Parrikar was extremely upset and angry over the incident,” Singh said.

“When the National Executive took place in 2013, I was president of the party (BJP). After receiving me at the airport in Goa, when we sat over tea, he told me that mood of the country was in favour of Narendra Modi becoming the next Prime Minister,” Singh said.

“He had also played a major role in the air strike. He monitored the operation throughout night. He played an important role in two air strikes,” the Union minister said, apparently referring to the surgical strikes across the LoC and also inside Myanmar.

“Manohar Parrikar was a person with an elevated mind and zero arrogance. He was a decisive leader, a visionary and a fighter who played a pivotal role as a Defence Minister of the country. His sharp mind and ingenious character helped him to stand tall throughout his career. He was highly respected due to these extraordinary qualities. He was a true ‘karmayoddha’, who worked till his last breath. His simple and noble lifetime will be an inspiration for generations to come,” Singh said.

Parrikar, a senior BJP leader, passed away after a prolonged battle against cancer at the age of 63.
