War of words between Bjp and Congress over “Masood Azhar ji’s” comment

War of words has begun between BJP and Congress over “Masood Azhar ji’s” comment. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacked on Congress president Rahul Gandhi. The party has tweeted a video showing Gandhi referring to Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Masood Azhar as ‘Azhar ji’.

Smriti Irani shared a six-second video of Rahul Gandhi on Twitter and said “Please note Rahul ji’s reverence for terrorist Masood Azhar a testimony to Rahul loves terrorists.”

The post had over 1.8k likes and 600 re-tweets at the time of writing this article. Using the hashtag “Rahul Loves Terrorists”, the BJP said that Rahul Gandhi holds a corner of respect for the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammmad (JeM) responsible for the martyrdom of 44 braves of India.

Targeting the Congress chief, BJP leader and Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Come on Rahul Gandhi Ji! Earlier it was the likes of Digvijay Ji who called Osama Ji and Hafiz Saeed Sahab. Now you are saying ‘Masood Azhar Ji’. What is happening to Congress Party?”

On this, the opposition party also mounted an attack and accused BJP of intentionally twisting Gandhi’s comments made with sarcasm. Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a meeting of Congress workers here, had hit out at the BJP, saying, “These people with 56 inch chest, you would recall, in their previous government, the current National Security Advisor Ajit Doval went in an aircraft with Masood Azhar ji and handed over Masood Azhar there in Kandhar.”

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala accused the BJP and a section of media of deliberately twisting Gandhi’s remarks. In turn, to the hashtag “Rahul Loves Terrorists” Surjewala used the hashtag “BJP loves terrorists”.

Azhar and two other terrorists, Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar and Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, were released from Indian prison in 1999 by the then BJP-led government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee in exchange for the passengers held hostage on board IC-814 flight hijacked to Kandahar in Afghanistan.

Azhar formed JeM after his release from jail. Since then, JeM, based in Pakistan, has been involved in terrorist attacks in India.
