Qureshi tells Pompeo, Pakistan committed to engage with India in peace dialogue

On Tuesday, October 2, 2018, the  Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan remained committed to engage in peace dialogue with India to resolve all issues including Jammu-Kashmir dispute.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi met US National Security Advisor, John Bolton and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on October 2, and had discussions on regional and bilateral issues including peace and stability in Afghanistan and engagement with India in dialogue to resolve the issues.

Qureshi first had a meeting with US NSA John Bolton at white house for about 40 minutes and then he went to have a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at foggy bottom headquarter of State Department. Qureshi and Pompeo had meeting for about 20 minutes.  

A statement of Embassy of Pakistan said, “Qureshi underscored that, on its part, Pakistan remained committed to engaging India in a comprehensive peace dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir dispute”.

As per statement, Qureshi told Pompeo, “Peace in South Asia, which was a common goal for both the US and Pakistan, would remain elusive until all disputes, including the core dispute of Jammu and Kashmir are resolved”.

Qureshi also told Pompeo about Pakistan’s support for political settlement in war torn Afghanistan as both Pakistan and US shares a common desire for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Pakistan on September 5, 2018 and had a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan. During his meeting with Khan he asked to take a decisive action on terrorists in Pakistan.

According the Pakistan Embassy statement, Pompeo said that US is looking forward to work with Prime Minister Imran Khan led new government to implement its reform agenda.
