BJP ready to form government in Karnataka, says Sadananda Gowda

Amid an ongoing political crisis in Karnataka following the resignation of 11 lawmakers of the ruling Congress-JDS alliance, party leader DV Sadananda Gowda has said that the BJP is ready to form the government in Karnataka if the Governor invites.

“Governor is the supreme authority, as per the constitutional mandate if he calls us, certainly we are ready to form the government. We are the single largest party, we have got 105 people with us,” senior BJP leader DV Sadananda Gowda said on being asked if the BJP will form government in Karnataka.

Gowda further said that if the BJP formed a government, BS Yeddyurappa would be the Chief Minister.

“They thought it was high time to come out of that party and resigned from legislators post as they felt that continuing as MLAs was not good in the larger interest of their constituency and state,” Sadananda Gowda said as the party welcomed the political development in the state.

The MLAs have however said that their decision to resign was voluntary and the BJP had nothing to do with it. Eight Congress and three Janata Dal Secular legislators submitted their resignations to the Speaker’s office this evening, while the latter was not in the office.

Eight of these legislators have now gone to the Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor. The resignations have not been accepted yet.

The Congress and the Janata Dal Secular had entered a post-poll alliance in 2018 after the BJP emerged as the single-largest party in the assembly elections.
