Trump meet with Putin and other world leaders, discusses range world issues

On Sunday, the White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said that President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Merkel and French President Macron, and discussed a range of world issues including Syria, Afghanistan, North Korea, trade and sanctions.

Sanders said, “Today (Sunday) at lunch, the President sat with (French) President (Emanuel) Macron, (German) Chancellor (Angela) Merkel, and (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin, and many other world leaders”.

She said, “The leaders discussed a variety of issues, including the INF (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty), Syria, trade, the situation in Saudi Arabia, sanctions, Afghanistan, China, and North Korea. They had very good and productive discussions during the two-hour lunch”.

Sanders also defended President Trump’s decision to cancel the visit to US cemetery in northern France saying that Trump’s helicopter could not go there because of bad weather and President didn’t want to disturb the people of France by going there through road route.

She said, “Because of near-zero visibility, Marine One was unable to fly, as had been planned. A car ride of two-and-a-half hours, each way, would have required closures to substantial portions of the Paris roadways for the President’s motorcade, on short notice. President Trump did not want to cause that kind of unexpected disruption to the city and its people”.

After Donald Trump announced last month that he may pull out of INF, it was expected that Trump and Russian President Putin will meet in Paris during commemoration of end of WW I. But earlier Putin told to French RT that he “had agreed not to violate the host’s work schedule. We will not organize any meetings here at their request”.
