Ministry of Home Affairs reopens 1984 anti-Sikh riot case. A Special Investigating Team (SIT) was set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2015. The Special Investigating team has decided to reopen the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases, including the one involving Congress leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath.

The SIT has taken up seven discharged cases for scrutiny or preliminary enquiry, according to the Home Ministry notification dated September 9.

Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee president Manjinder Singh Sirsa told reporters that a Special Investigation Team was investigating allegations against Nath. “The FIR 601/84 has been reopened and that names Kamal Nath,” Sirsa was quoted as saying by The Tribune. The report further said that the DSGMC president added Congress party-led by Sonia Gandhi should dismiss Nath from chief ministership. “If the Congress does not sack him, it will show their anti-Sikh face,” he said.

The order came soon after when Manjinder Singh Sirsa, an Akali Dal MLA from Delhi’s Rajouri Garden filed a petition. “Start counting your days @officeof-KNath; you will soon be meeting your buddy Sajjan Kumar in jail,” Sirsa said on Twitter.

“The SIT has taken up discharged cases for scrutiny and details of these cases are being made public so that it can be viewed by related persons all over the world and those who are acquainted with the facts of these cases can give information about the same,” said a home ministry order issued last month.

Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, soon after the announcement, appealed the removal of Nath as Madhya Pradesh CM, and advided the witnesses to come forward fearlessly.
