With the induction of two new members, BJP has alloted its national president Amit Shah with the Home Ministry and former Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar being has been announced as the External Affairs Minister.
Former Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be the new Finance Minister and former Home Minister Rajnath Singh will take charge as the Defence Minister for the 17th Lok Sabha.
Smriti Irani, who has been in talks ever since she defeated Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, continues with her old portfolio of Textiles, along with Women and Child Development, formerly held by Maneka Gandhi.
Former Minister of State for Agriculture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, will head the newly created “Jal Shakti” Ministry. Prime Minister Modi has said that the Ministry would be a priority area for the new government.

Senior Minister Nitin Gadkari continues as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Ravi Shankar Prasad stays on as the Law Minister, along with Information Technology and Telecommunications.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal is announced as head of the Ministry with the addition of Commerce, which was earlier held by Suresh Prabhu who has been dropped. Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan retains the crucial portfolio and has been given the additional responsibility of Steel.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan is now the Minister of Health and Family Welfare; Minister of Science and Technology; and Minister of Earth Sciences. Prakash Javadekar retains the post of Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; and Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
