Pompeo agreed with Chairman Kim to hold second US-North Korea summit: Seoul
According to statement by North Korea’s Presidential office, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Chairman of DPRK Kim Jong-Un agreed to hold second summit between US and North Korea at the earliest.
As per the statement from South Korea’s Presidential office, Pompeo “agreed with Chairman Kim to hold the second US-North Korea summit at the earliest date possible”.
Secretary Pompeo was on his fourth trip to North Korea in less than a year and. He had meeting with Chairman Kim in the morning for almost two hours followed by the lunch. After meeting with Chairman Kim, Pompeo said that US-North Korea to continue to progress on agreements made at Singapore Summit.
Pompeo wrote on Twitter after meeting with Kim, “Had a good trip to #Pyongyang to meet with Chairman Kim. We continue to make progress on agreements made at Singapore Summit. Thanks for hosting me and my team @StateDept”.

Kim said, through the interpreter, as he set down for lunch with Pompeo, “It’s a very nice day that promises a good future for both countries”.
Pompeo said, “Thank you for hosting, President Trump sends his regards. And we had a very successful morning, so thank you and I am looking forward to our time here at lunch as well”.
In the evening Pompeo flied to South Korea and had bilateral meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-In. He said that this meeting with Chairman Kim was a step forward in the process of denuclearization as agreed during Singapore summit.
US President Donald Trump and DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-Un had first ever most anticipated summit in Singapore on June 12, 2018 and agreed for denuclearization. But substantial progress could not be seen in the denuclearization process.
North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho said in his speech at United Nations General Assembly that disarmament is not possible unilaterally as the continued sanctions from US are deepening mistrust with US.
He said, “Without any trust in the US there will be no confidence in our national security and under such circumstances there is no way we will unilaterally disarm ourselves first”.
