Trump Renews 2020 Fraud Claims, Demands Special Prosecutor Over Border and Election

President Donald Trump is, once again, wading into old—and deeply divisive—territory. In a blistering Truth Social post Friday, the newly re-elected president compared current border security under his administration to what he describes as “disastrous” numbers under President Joe Biden, while reigniting baseless claims of fraud in the 2020 election.
“Zero Border crossings for the month for TRUMP,” he wrote, contrasting it with “60,000 for Sleepy, Crooked Joe Biden.” He went on to accuse Biden of having “lost the 2020 Presidential Election by a LANDSLIDE,” adding that the election was a “total FRAUD” and calling for the appointment of a special prosecutor.
The post, although not new in tone or substance, marks yet another instance of Trump pushing election denialism from within the Oval Office—this time with the full weight of presidential power behind him.
Border numbers: A tale of two realities
Trump’s claim of “zero border crossings” is, to put it mildly, unverified and improbable. According to the latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, even during the strictest enforcement periods, crossings rarely if ever hit absolute zero.
To be fair, Trump has enacted an aggressive series of executive orders since returning to office in January 2025, including renewed construction on border infrastructure and expanded cooperation with southern-state governors. But immigration experts caution that policy impact takes time—and often doesn’t produce neat monthly outcomes.
Still, his supporters likely won’t mind the math. For them, the narrative—Trump as the firm-handed guardian of national borders—is the point.
The 2020 election… again
Trump’s insistence that the 2020 election was “stolen” has been repeatedly debunked by bipartisan state officials, federal judges, and even his former Attorney General, William Barr, who called the fraud claims “nonsense.” Multiple recounts and audits in key swing states affirmed Biden’s victory.
But in Trump’s rhetoric, none of that matters. The post doesn’t just allege wrongdoing—it calls for a special prosecutor to investigate what he describes as “massive and overwhelming” evidence, though he doesn’t offer any specifics or new documentation.
What’s next?
Whether this is a prelude to legal maneuvers, or simply political messaging meant to solidify his base, remains unclear. What is clear, however, is that Trump’s strategy hasn’t changed much: challenge the legitimacy of opponents, double down on border security as a moral and economic imperative, and—when in doubt—return to the narrative of a stolen past.
To be honest, it’s something we’ve seen before. The difference now? He’s saying it again… as the sitting President.
