Trump Renews Call for Justice Over “Russia Hoax,” Says Case Is Now “Totally Undisputed”

In a characteristically emphatic post on Truth Social this morning, President Donald Trump declared that the years-long Russia investigation saga—what he has long labeled a “hoax”—is now conclusively debunked. “The FACTS ARE ALL THERE, IN BLACK AND WHITE,” Trump wrote, adding that the episode represents “the biggest scandal in American History.”

That’s not new rhetoric from Trump. What’s different now, though, is the timing—and perhaps, the stakes. With legal battles mounting and a contentious election year already well underway, the president’s renewed focus on the so-called “Russia Hoax” seems both personal and political. He’s not just relitigating the past; he’s trying to cement a narrative for the future.

What’s “totally undisputed”? That depends on whom you ask

Trump didn’t cite specific evidence in the post. But his remarks appear to be referring to the findings from the Durham report, released in May 2023, which criticized the FBI’s handling of the initial probe into potential links between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian officials.

Special Counsel John Durham concluded that the FBI “failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law” when it opened the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Still, he did not claim that the entire Russia investigation was fabricated—nor did he assert that no inappropriate contact occurred between the Trump campaign and Russian actors. In fact, the earlier Senate Intelligence Committee report, released in 2020, found that Trump campaign officials had repeated interactions with individuals tied to Russian intelligence.

So while Durham’s findings did fuel criticism of the FBI, they did not fully exonerate Trump in the broad, sweeping terms he now suggests.

A political weapon more than a legal one

To be honest, this reminds me of the Benghazi hearings. Not because the subject matter is the same, but because both became tools for political identity more than fact-finding missions. Trump’s framing of the Russia probe as a “crime” and demand that the “perpetrators… pay a big price” seems aimed more at rallying a base than pursuing legal remedy.

The reality is—despite all the shouting—no senior official has been prosecuted for wrongdoing in the Russia investigation. Former FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith was the only one convicted, and he received probation for altering an email used in a FISA application. That’s a far cry from the kind of sweeping accountability Trump appears to want.

Still lingering in America’s bloodstream

The Russia saga, much like Watergate or Iran-Contra, has become less about details and more about narrative. Trump’s insistence that it’s “TOTALLY UNDISPUTED” may resonate with his supporters, but for the broader public, it remains one of the most polarizing episodes in recent American history. It’s not over. Not really. Just… paused, and occasionally revived when politically useful. And 2025, clearly, is no exception.
