Trump says, Saudi Arabia will pay to rebuild Syria, instead of the United States
On Monday, US President Donald Trump said that Syria’s neighbor and immensely wealthy country, Saudi Arabia has agreed to pay the necessary money to rebuild Syria.
Trump’s remarks came days after he declared victory over ISIS in Syria and announced to withdraw US troops immediately from war torn Syria. Later on Pentagon confirmed that order for withdrawal of troops from Syria has been signed and withdrawal would be completed by middle of January, 2019.
Donald Trump wrote on twitter, “Saudi Arabia has now agreed to spend the necessary money needed to help rebuild Syria, instead of the United States. See? Isn’t it nice when immensely wealthy countries help rebuild their neighbors rather than a Great Country, the U.S., that is 5000 miles away. Thanks to Saudi A!”

US – Saudi relations became stressful after killing of Jamal Khashoggi, a journalist of the Washington Post and critic of Saudi crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS), at Saudi consulate in Turkey. Saudi crown prince was accused of murder of Khashoggi and was criticized worldwide.
Last week Trump announced to withdraw US troops from Syria that surprised its allies and partners fighting with ISIS in Syria. Some allies say that there is a lot to be done to defeat ISIS.
Experts had warned that US troop’s withdrawal may create a void in war torn Syria and ISIS may step up attacks in the region. Some US lawmakers has also criticized Trump’s decision to pull out US troops from Syria.
A day after Trump’s announcement of his decision to pull-out troops from Syria, US defence secretary Jim Mattis resigned from his post citing differences with Trump on international affairs.
