COMCASA is an indication of growing trust with India: US Defence Secretary

On Monday, September 24, 2018 the US Defence Secretary, Jim Mattis said that ‘Communication Compatibility and Security Agreement’ signed between India and US is an indication of growing trust between both the countries.

Defence Secretary Mattis told the reporters at Pentagon, “We’ve signed some enabling document to what I would call them, enabling a closer military relationship, additional sharing of information we need to keep secure; that we would share with a country that we trust”.

Mattis said, “So is an indication of growing trust, growing partnership and have a mutually beneficial efforts on the part of both of us”.

He said, “There will be additional documents that the two countries would sign as the two countries mature the relationship, and it’s all going according to plan”.

The Communication and Information on Security Memorandum of Agreement was signed after 2+2 dialogue held on September 6, 2018 in New Delhi and cleared the path for transfer of communication security equipment from US to India.

2+2 dialogue was being postponed since last one year, but was held early this month between Defence Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman and US Defence secretary Jim Mattis and Foreign Ministers of India Sushma Swaraj and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Defence Secretary, Mattis said that the 2+2 dialogue had a very positive outcome.

Secretary Mattis further said that India and US continuous to work together on everything from exercise to exchange of officers.

During 2+2 dialogue, both India and US agreed for joint military exercises to enhance coordination and cooperation among the armies of two countries.
