Ultimate goal of US is to change Iranian regime, President Rouhani says
On Sunday, October 14, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that current US administration is in psychological and economic war with Iran and its ultimate goal is to delegitimize the system and to change the regime of Islamic Republic.
President Rouhani was speaking at Tehran University, he said, “Over the past 40 years, there has not been a more spiteful team than the current US government toward Iran and the Islamic Republic”.
Rouhani added, “They started with a psychological war; their next goal is an economic war and an attempt to portray [the Islamic Republic] ineffective, and their ultimate goal is to delegitimize the system and change it”.

President Rouhani said in his speech that President Trump’s decision to pull out of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) was considered as illegal and a mistake by most of the countries except few regimes.
He said that Iran can withdraw from JCPOA anytime, but national security is first. He asserted that US has been isolated after it withdrew from Iran nuclear Deal and Iran is the winner.
He said, “From a political standpoint and a foreign policy perspective, Iran is certainly the winner and America the loser, in what has so far transpired”.
US President Donald Trump withdrew from 2015 Iran Nuclear Accord, known as JCPOA, and re-imposed sanctions on Islamic Republic. First phase sanctions were re-imposed on August 6, and second phase sanctions are due to come into effect from November 4, 2018.
In his speech at UN General Assembly, Iranian President Rouhani cited US economic sanctions on Iran as “economic terrorism”.
President Trump vowed to bring down Iranian oil export to zero by November 4 and threatened to sanction countries and firms that will continue to trade with Iran after November 4.
