Previous Governments’ schemes were guided by vote-bank politics: PM Modi
At the launch of Ayushman Bharat on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said previous governments recognised poor people only as a ‘vote-bank’.
PM Modi said that the purpose of the scheme is to empower the poor and is not aimed at benefiting specific region, community or caste. His speech echoed of BJPs often repeated slogan “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas”.
While targeting the previous governments, he said, “The previous governments’ schemes were guided by vote-bank politics, with the beneficiaries selected on the basis of potential voters for them.” He added, “the poor don’t want freebies; they have self-respect and seek empowerment.”
Along with affordable healthcare, the Government of India is also focussing on preventive healthcare.

“Since Independence, the slogan of ‘Garibi Hatao’ has been given, where only politics has been done in the name of ending poverty. If politics had not been done, India would have been different now,” PM Modi said.
The government is sure that it has caught the genesis of poverty and is focussing on empowerment to provide the citizens the opportunity to excel in life.
PM Modi asserted that his government believes in inclusive growth. “Our government thinks of health in a holistic manner. While we are investing to improve the infrastructure and human resources to provide medical care, we are also working towards preventive health care, be it the ODF (open-defecation free) mission, the scheme for concrete houses or others … all help towards improving the health sector,” he said.
BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday hailed the Ayushman Bharat Scheme and said that the poor are at the centre of the Modi government’s projects.
Also, the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said that the scheme will further endeavour towards achieving Modi’s vision of a “New India”.
