Pakistan FM calls emergency meeting after IAF air strikes in PoK

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday convened an emergency meeting at the foreign office in Islamabad to discuss the aerial strikes carried out by Indian Air Force at major terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Qureshi will be meeting Prime Minister Imran Khan after the meeting in which he is expected to discuss the security situation with high-level officials.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting is being attended by former foreign secretaries and senior ambassadors.

The Pakistan Army had alleged that the Indian Air Force (IAF) violated the Line of Control (LoC) in Muzafarabad sector.

“Indian aircraft intruded from Muzafarabad sector. Facing timely and effective response from Pakistan Air Force released payload in haste while escaping which fell near Balakot. No casualties or damage,” Major General Asif Ghafoor, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army, tweeted.

“Indian Air Force violated Line of Control Pakistan. Pakistan Air Force immediately scrambled. Indian aircraft gone back,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Pakistani media was reporting that the Indian government has staged a symbolic intrusion due to domestic pressure.

According to news agency ANI, IAF’s 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets dropped over 1,000 kg laser guided bombs on at least three JeM terror camps in PoK. Initial reports say that around 300 terrorists have been killed in the strike.

On February 14, a suicide bomber drove an explosive-filled mini-van into a 78-vehicle convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force on the Jammu-Srinagar highway killing forty CRPF soldiers.
