BJP to hold protests in Kolkata on Wednesday

BJP is expected to make a major show of strength on Wednesday, June 12, as the party workers would be marching to the Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar to gherao it in protest against the attacks on them.

According to BJP leaders, the state government is trying to intimidate BJP workers. “The protest would be against the misuse of government resources to intimidate the BJP workers in the state,” said Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP general secretary.

“The BJP MPs are not being allowed to hold Vijay Julus or Abhar Yatra in their constituencies while Trinamool MPs can freely do so. Being a chief minister you are required to treat equally to the people of the state no matter which party or ideology they belong to. But this is not happening in the state,” he said.

A quarrel took place between police and a group of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district previously on Sunday when the BJP workers were stopped from taking bodies of slain party workers to Kolkata.

Following the quarrel, the saffron party decided to observe ‘Black Day’ across the state on Monday. It had called for a 12-hour general strike in the Basirhat sub-division on Monday, which is now being followed by a ‘condemnation march’ to the Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar.

Three people were killed — two from BJP and one from Trinamool Congress — Saturday in a clash between the Trinamool and BJP workers in the Hatgacha area of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district, over removal of party flags.
