Skill Ministry banking towards industry to make youth employable

Skill development secretary, Ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, KP Krishnan said on Friday that under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) we are moving towards industry to make youth employable through training and certification.

Secretary KP Krishnan while speaking at the Economic Times India Leadership Council meet, said, “We are moving towards self-regulation wherein industry can develop its own curriculum based on its requirement for training, do the certification so that they (the youth) become employable, and hire them eventually if needed”.

He said, “Apprenticeship is the formal design through which industry can pick the youth and decide how it wants to train workers for their needs. This could fetch the workers a wage premium over others”.

In India,  skilled workers are not able to get the required premium wages because of the lake of industrial training. Government is encouraging the Industry to provide apprentice training to youth and to avail the benefits against it provided by government under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme.

Skill development is important and necessary to bring the unemployment and to curb the poverty in the country. Apart from National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, government started numbers of schemes for skill development, like Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Craftsman Training Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra, Financial Assistance for Skill Training of Persons with Disabilities, Skill Development of minorities etc.

India has maximum number of youth, below the age of 35 years, in the world. If this youth power can be directed in the direction of development, then India may grow faster than expected and it may also help India in becoming the economic power.
