Lockdown in India to Contain COVID-19, extended up to 3rd May
On Tuesday, 14th April 2020, the lockdown in India was extended upto 3rd May to contain the potential spread of COVID-19 in the country. The decision came on the last day of 21 days lockdown previously imposed by the government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the decision of government to extend the lockdown during his address to the nation in the morning on Tuesday, after he had meeting with Chief Ministers of all states and LGs of UTs couple of days ago.
PM Modi hailed the efforts of people in helping the government to curb COVID-19 and urged people to follow the lockdown and social distancing rules strictly and to use the mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
He expressed his concerned about the livelihood of poor and asked people help them by providing the food, shelter and basic necessities in the time of crisis.
PM Modi also expressed the confidence in the countries’ preparedness to fight COVID-19 effectively and efficiently. He said that more than 600 hospitals with a capacity of more than 100,000 beds and about 200 test labs are ready to deal with the worst situation.

In India total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has crossed 11,400 and the total number of fatalities is more than 370. Maharashtra is the most affected state in the country with more than 2500 confirmed cases of COVID-19 followed by Tamil-Nadu with 1204, Rajasthan with 969, Madhya Pradesh with 730 and Gujarat with 650 confirmed cases. The number of confirmed cases in Delhi has crossed 1500.
