Putin says, Russia will use nuclear weapon and hypersonic missiles only in retaliation of a strike
On Thursday, October 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, at an international policy forum in the black sea resort city of Sochi, that Russia will use nuclear weapons and hypersonic missiles only when there is an incoming attack on its territory.
Putin said, “Only when we become convinced that there is an incoming attack on the territory of Russia, and that happens within seconds, only after that we would launch a retaliatory strike”.
He said, “It would naturally mean a global catastrophe, but I want to emphasize that we can’t be those who initiate it because we don’t foresee a preventive strike”.
He added, “The aggressor should know that retaliation is inevitable, and he will be destroyed. We would be victims of an aggression and would get to heaven as martyrs but they would just die and not even have time to repent”.

Putin said that Russia is the only country that has hypersonic missiles on duty whereas other countries are just developing and testing them and it may take one and half to two years to completely develop the weapon.
He said, “We have run ahead of the competition. No one has precision hypersonic weapons. Others are planning to start testing them within the next one and half to two years, and we already have them on duty”.
Russia-US relations are at worst level after cold war era. Earlier US hinted that it may launch preemptive strikes on Russia to destroy its weapon stockpile. Russia is also countering US in Syria’s seven years old civil war by supporting Syrian army in the battlefield.
