CBI registers preliminary enquiry to probe UPPSC 2010 examination

The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI has registered a preliminary enquiry, PE involving unknown officials of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) for alleged irregularities and misconduct in the 2010 examination for the post of additional private secretary.

The agency launched the inquiry on February 14, after the Yogi Adityanath government in UP raised a complaint.

The allegation is that unknown UPPSC officials had showed undue favours to candidates during the examinations, resulting in the selection of people who did not fulfil the eligibility criteria. Some of the selected candidates were allegedly close relatives of UPPSC officials, claimed CBI sources.

The examinations to fill 250 posts were held in 2010, when the BSP under Mayawati was in power in Uttar Pradesh. While the advertisement calling applications for the posts was published in 2010, the appointment process was completed on October 3, 2017.

Last year in May, the CBI sought a clarification on the selection process from the UPPSC. The UPPSC however refused to share any details or documents with the agency.

The CBI then later sent a letter to the UP government seeking permission to probe the case. The agency will now examine the documents of UPPSC and the officers involved in the selection process, said sources.
