PM Modi stresses on Character building and wholesome education that makes us human
On Saturday, September 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on character building over literacy and wholesome education that makes human, in his speech at the inaugural ceremony of “Conference on Academic Leadership on Education for Resurgence” organized by Ministry of Human Resource and Development.
PM Modi said, “Knowledge and education are not restricted to books. The purpose of education is to enable balanced growth of every dimension of a human being, which is not possible without innovation”.
Prime Minister cited the example of great Indian leaders who stressed on character building to be a human and spread the knowledge of ancient Indian literature worldwide.
He said, “Ambedkar, Deen Dayal Upadhya and Ram Manohar Lohiya always emphasized on character-building over literacy. Swami Vivekananda stressed on wholesome education that makes us a human”.

Recalling the ancient Indian text, Vedas, Prime Minister said that we cannot imagine our society, our country, and even our values without knowledge. PM emphasized on innovation along with knowledge and to use the knowledge for country.
PM said, “Innovation is very important because without it, life seems like a burden. In our ancient universities like Takshshila, Nalanda and Vikramashila, innovation was given emphasis along with knowledge. I insist that students should give knowledge in classrooms of college, university but they also add them to the aspirations of the country”.
He said that we should interlink institutions to Innovate and Incubate. In his speech PM mentioned about Atal Tinkering Labs that have been set up to encourage children to innovate.
Addressing the conference, PM Modi stressed on improving quality of research focusing the requirements of country, job creating instead of job seeking and improving entrepreneurship.
Vice Chancellors/Directors of more than 350 Universities are participating in the conference that is being organized jointly by UGC, AICTE, ICSSR, IGNCA, IGNOU, JNU and SGT University.
