Bollywood actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar’s resigned from Congress after five months. As a reason to quit, the actor citied petty politics and cracks in the party’s Mumbai unit has been revealed after the resignation of the actor.
While addressing the media Urmila Matondka said “It is obvious that the key functionaries of Mumbai Congress are either unable or not committed to bring about a change and transformation in the organisation for betterment of the party”.

Urmila Matondkar had taken on senior BJP leader Gopal Shetty during the Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North seat. In her statement, Urmila Matondkar had accused then Mumbai Congress president Milind Deora of not taking any action on her recent letter. The actor has questioned the lack of leadership and vision in the party. Whereas, Milind Deora said that Mumbai North leaders are to be blamed for her departure.
“After Urmila Matondkar decided to fight Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North, I supported her campaign wholeheartedly as Mumbai Congress President. I stood by her when she was let down by those who brought her into the party. Fully agree that Mumbai North leaders MUST be held accountable!,” Milind Deora said.
Senior Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, said that the actress should have been patient with the party.
“Infighting is part & partial of every organisations. We must fight against this instead of giving up. I had cautioned @UrmilaMatondkarlong ago & told her not to get into it & have patience. Its unfortunate that she has resigned. Request her to rethink over her decision. (sic),” Sanjay Nirupam said.
